Training Hydration

Hydration & Fluid Balance

Training Hydration supports the session and rehearses race plans; recording responses is more useful than copying a teammate's volume.

Fluid needs depend on body size, exercise duration and intensity, clothing, environment and access. A fixed prescription for everyone, or automatically adding water whenever fatigue appears, misses these differences. Records from comparable sessions, drinking, body-mass changes and gut tolerance guide adjustments. A plan for a hot endurance session does not automatically fit a short cool workout.

During exercise, coordinate drinking opportunities and fueling with estimated losses and gut tolerance. Replacing every drop of sweat immediately is not compulsory, and gaining mass from excessive drinking is undesirable. The strategy should adapt to weather and intensity. When access is constrained, rehearsing its practical execution matters as much as calculating volumes. A plan supports decisions rather than forcing intake despite changing conditions.

A sports drink usually combines water, carbohydrate and electrolytes for a particular exercise use; it is distinct from an energy drink. Plain water can suffice during short sessions with adequate food, while prolonged exercise may require both fluid and fuel. Examine carbohydrate, sodium, actual serving volume and tolerance. The product name alone does not establish that an athlete needs it at every workout.

In race-like training, record access, tolerated portions and body-mass response; revise the plan if weather or intensity changes so it does not become forced drinking.
