Nerve Fiber
Nervous System & Special Senses
A nerve fibre is the axon of a neuron together with its coverings (myelin and glial cells), which carries the nerve impulse away from the cell body; each nerve is a bundle of thousands of nerve fibres.
Types by Myelin
- Myelinated: saltatory, fast conduction, as in motor and proprioceptive fibres.
- Unmyelinated: continuous, slow conduction, as in pain C fibres and autonomic postganglionic fibres.
