Hinge Joint
Skeletal System
A hinge joint is a uniaxial synovial joint that, like a door hinge, allows only flexion and extension in a single plane, the sagittal plane.
Structure
In this joint, the convex, cylindrical surface of one bone fits into the concave surface of the other, and strong collateral ligaments on either side prevent sideways movement.
