Hemorrhage & Shock
Cardiovascular System
Haemorrhage and shock are two related conditions: haemorrhage is the escape of blood from the vessels, and shock is a life-threatening state in which blood and oxygen delivery to the tissues becomes inadequate; severe haemorrhage is one of the main causes of shock (hypovolaemic shock).
Types of Haemorrhage
- Arterial: bright red and spurting; the most dangerous.
- Venous: dark red and steady.
- Capillary: oozing, as from a graze.
- Internal: such as rupture of the spleen or liver from a blow to the abdomen; it may be hidden.
