Fascicle
Muscular System
A fascicle is a group of tens to hundreds of muscle fibres enclosed by the perimysium, forming the visible unit of muscle structure.
The word comes from the Latin fasciculus, meaning “little bundle”.
Hierarchy
Muscle → fascicles → muscle fibres → myofibrils → sarcomeres → actin and myosin filaments.
Importance of Fascicle Arrangement
The orientation of fascicles determines the muscle type: parallel (e.g. sartorius), fusiform (e.g. biceps), pennate (e.g. quadriceps),
